Foster Care Associates

Foster Care Associates (FCA) is the UK’s largest Independent Fostering Agency. FCA works in partnership with Local Authorities and Health Trusts throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to provide the highest quality fostering placements for looked after children and young people.

FCA have over 80 offices throughout the UK. The options available to FCA, to cope with the sheer number of these locations, were to manage the day to day functions of these offices internally or to seek the services of a team of qualified health and safety experts who would be able to quickly conduct inspections and provide training. FCA chose to elect the help of Agility UK.

As FCA has grown, staff have been trained by Agility UK in all aspects of health and safety as part of their corporate induction. Agility UK have also been able to tailor their training to best suit the culture of FCA ensuring that health and safety messages are relevant to the main purpose of the organisation: the care of children.

Health and safety for children

Once all staff at the fostering agency were fully up to speed with health and safety matters, it was identified that the young people in the care of FCA would also benefit greatly from relevant health and safety training. Agility UK worked with FCA to produce a new programme, Keep Yourself Safe, to provide fun and practical training to young people.

In March 2010, Keep Yourself Safe was launched to representatives from across the nation with the aim to roll out to 2500 children over 2010. Keep Yourself Safe will continue to develop over the years and is already incorporating into new areas of awareness, such as internet safety, into its teachings.  

Agility UK continues to work closely in partnership with FCA with the aim of providing the best health and safety support and advice to keep staff and young people in their care as safe as possible.
