Asbestos was used heavily through the 50′s to 80′s and was not banned until 1999. Now, all workers who are liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work should be trained so that they can recognise asbestos containing materials and know what to do if they come across them.

Asbestos was extensively used as a building material in the UK from the 1950’s through until the mid-1980’s. It was used for a variety of purposes and was ideal for fireproofing and insulation. Any building built before 2000 houses, factories, offices, hospitals and even schools can contain asbestos.
